Camps: A Guide to 21st-Century Space by Charlie Hailey

Finally! Charlie Hailey's long-awaited and very ambitious "CAMPS: A guide to 21st-Century Space" launched. I'm honored that Charlie included one of my Tokyo Blues pieces as an illustration of temporary space. It's a really great guide for thinking about emerging practices of space making. "every object can teach us something."

I was happy to be able to present to the Aula conference a couple of weeks ago. Aside from experiencing the magical light of Nordic midsummer night, and a most relaxing and happy time in Helsinki, there are few happy moments which continue to echo my head in a very simple and deep way. One in particular was Ulla-Maaria's presentation about "Thinglink," and especially her explanation of how she came up with this project, inspired by Marx's insistence that "every object can teach us something." I found it very inspiring, in that we so rarely know the history of the things around us, and her work is all about returning these hidden stories to visibility.

CONFLUX is the annual NYC festival for contemporary psychogeography where international artists, technologists, urban adventurers and the public put investigations of everyday city life into practice on the streets. Opening and exhibition at Hippolyte photographic gallery

Workshop at Citilab in Bracelona

My friend Fabien Girardin invited me to participate in a workshop to develop future scenarios involving urban informatics and everyday life in the city. We considered how the new technology of urban informatics would affect us. Our team came up with an idea about how abandoned urban spaces could be visualized and eventually used, mashing up already existing online services and public data in Spain.

Joint artist talk "Elsewhere/Within"

I did an artist talk with my friend Sasha at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. Novia's a school for Swedish-speaking Finns, so after our presentations, we discussed what it means to have the experience of migration and living always in between cultures. The students were very open and responsive, and I really enjoyed our time with them. Thank you Sasha, Tomas and everyone for a great conversation!
